Lusamerica
Foods, Inc. has been supplying quality seafood for over thirty
years in California and the Western US. We are a family owned
and operated company founded by Fernando and Ana Frederico in
San Jose, California. From our state of the art facilities in
Morgan Hill, California and Fife, Washington we further process
and distribute to four western states in our fleet of 40 trucks
and by contract carriers and by air freight nationwide.
We have an emphasis on sustainable, local, traceable products
and work with vendor and customer partners and non-profit
conservation and environmental groups to affect positive change
in the seafood industry.
Lusamerica has partnered with FishWise to broaden our
sustainable seafood choices and increase our educational
outreach to customers. We are Marine Stewardship Council chain
of custody certified (SF-C-1225) on a variety of wild harvest
fisheries. We work very closely to offer items listed on the
Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood WATCH® program, providing
information on Best Choice and Good Alternative seafood items
that we sell on a daily basis to our diverse retail and
foodservice customer base.
We promote fisheries that use the most environmentally sensitive
harvest methods including, longline, troll, jig, pot/trap and
hook & line.
We work with our vendor partners to ensure the work conditions
and compensation practices are fair, safe and economically
sustainable for the fishers and workers.
We are committed to providing reduced carbon footprint choices.
We offer premium previously frozen products whenever possible
that have been frozen closest to the point of harvest and
transported by container vessels, rail and truck to avoid air
shipping. Often the highest quality fish from a particular
fishery is the previously frozen item.
We package products in compostable and recyclable trays and
boxes and we reuse or recycle 100% of our incoming Styrofoam. |
